Is Romney Losing?

  • Blog

The narrative of the so-called mainstream media is that the election is over and Obama has won. No need to go to the polls and vote, friends. Big reason for us to be discouraged because Romney is losing.

How accurate is this picture? There are so many polls, both national and by state, that it is difficult to determine where the presidential elections stands — except for the general agreement that it will be close. Most polls show slim leads for either Romney or Obama, but they are within the margin of error.

David Andrusko of National Right to Life examines the latest POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll which shows Obama up by 3%, 50% to 47%. But digging deeper, Andrusko reports that Romney leads among Independents, a demographic that Obama won by 8 points in 2008. Obama is also losing ground with women, even thought he still holds a lead. Obama’s big 2008 advantage with Catholic voters has evaporated with Romney now leading Catholics by 8 points.

There has been criticism of some polls, like the recent Marquette University poll which showed a huge Wisconsin lead for Obama, because the pollsters are over-sampling Democrats. Some complain that pollsters are using 2008 numbers to define the electorate, a foundation which ignores the sweeping victories in the 2010 elections by Republicans.

Another interesting survey number is from one released by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press which surveyed 3,019 adults including 2,424 registered voters between September 12-16. Have you heard over and over that the election is about the economy and social issues don’t matter? Think again. The Pew survey reveals that abortion is considered a significant issue by 46% of voters, up 7 points from the 39% registered in 2008. Most significantly, most of that increase is registered with women! “More than half of women (54%) say the issue of abortion will be very important in their voting decision, compared with 36% of men,” says Pew. Now, those who say abortion is important could still favor Obama, but the voting patterns from 2008 showed that of those who considered abortion significant in that election, the vast majority voted for McCain.

Bottom line: Romney is not losing, and we have to do all we can to ensure that he doesn’t lose, to protect those we defend from President Obama who has demonstrated time and again how little he cares about the sanctity of human life.
