House Speaker Paul Ryan meets with Wisconsin Right to Life Executive Director Heather Weininger

On Wednesday, April 26, Wisconsin Right to Life Executive Director, Heather Weininger, met with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, in his Washington, DC office.

“We are so proud of all his work to protect the unborn, both as a Congressman, representing Wisconsin’s 1st District, and now, also as the Speaker of the House,” said Weininger. “It was great spending time with Speaker Ryan discussing pro-life issues!”

“Paul Ryan is really a long-time friend of mine,” continued Weininger, “as he and my former boss were in the same freshman class. Paul’s office was across the hall from ours and we worked together on many occasions.”

“The Speaker was kind enough to post to Twitter a picture of our visit, reading, “Congress and the presidency are united in defense of the unborn. Proud to meet with fellow Wisconsinites who are too.”

We love that! Interestingly, just after the Speaker’s Twitter post, OUR Twitter nearly crashed from all the traffic! Thank you Speaker Ryan!

Action Alert: No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion in WI! Important Hearing April 19th

On April 19th at 1 pm, there will be a hearing at the State Capitol in Room 225 Northwest on AB 128. AB 128 (also known as SB 81 in the State Senate) ensures that the Group Insurance Board does not contract with any insurance plan for state employees that covers abortions.

Why is this important? State employees’ health insurance is paid with taxpayer dollars. If state employees’ health insurance covers abortions, that essentially means those abortions are taxpayer funded!

Here where we need pro-life action:

1.) If you are able, please come to the hearing at the State Capitol April 19th at 1 pm in Room 225 Northwest. Email Chelsea Shields at cshields@wrtl.org for help navigating the Capitol and learning how to register in favor and/or testify in favor of AB 128/SB 81.
2.) If you cannot make it to the hearing, please call your State Senator and State Representative and let them know you support AB 128/SB 81 because no taxpayer dollars should pay for abortions! Find your legislators by typing your address into the search box here.
3.) Please ask three (or more!) friends to contact their legislators or come to the hearing as well!

Pro-life action saves lives. Keep up the great work!

Learn More About Notorious Abortionist Gosnell at the NRL Convention This Summer in Milwaukee

Wisconsin Right to Life is thrilled to host the National Right to Life Convention this summer in Milwaukee!

This convention is filled with impactful information from a wide variety of pro-life speakers and experts that will sharpen your skills in the fight for life and invigorate your passion for the cause.

One of NRL Convention’s keynote speakers that I’m excited to tell you about is Ann McElhinney. She is an author, journalist, and film producer who wrote along with her husband the NYT Best Seller Gosnell – The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.

I have to admit, I had a hard time actually getting myself to read her book. Deep down, I knew I was not quite ready for the horrific truth it would tell – I’d probably never be ready. But I knew this book would share what has happened to real people, living human beings.

I returned from a mini-vacation with my husband and children to see that Gosnell had arrived in the mail. Even though I was hesitant to pick it up, I took a deep breath and dove into its pages. For the sake of Gosnell’s victims, I had to learn more.

Let me tell you, this book had me constantly wondering whether I was truly reading non-fiction, or fiction. I knew Kermit Gosnell was a notorious Philadelphia abortionist responsible for the deaths of thousands of unborn children. What I didn’t know was the extent of the atrocities he committed, completelyunobserved – or even blatantly ignored – by governmental bureaucratic agencies.

After reading the book in one sitting, I couldn’t shake the feeling of horror.

What shook me the most was the fact that Kermit Gosnell was not eventually arrested and convicted due to his gory abortion practice or barbaric medical conditions. It was because he was suspected on a drug charge.

Ultimately, justice prevailed and Kermit Gosnell is behind bars. But our work isn’t over until all of his victims are recognized – the vulnerable mothers subjected to the sickening conditions of his abortion facilities, and the unborn children who lost their precious lives at his hands.

If you have read Gosnell, want to learn more about him, or want to dive deeper into how we can prevent further atrocities like the ones he committed, join us in Milwaukee from June 29th – July 1st, 2017.  It’seasy to register today!

Let them know they should support H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act of 2017, with its current pro-life provisions. Abortion is not healthcare!

This legislation is likely to come up for a vote TOMORROW, Thursday, March 23rd, and would eliminate multiple abortion-subsidizing and abortion-expanding provisions of Obamacare.

WRTL’s parent organization National Right to Life supports H.R. 1628 as it is written because it:

1.) prevents credits from being used for plans that pay for abortions

2.) eliminates about 85% of federal PP funding for the next year

3) preserves non-taxed employer provided health plans

4) postpones the “Cadillac tax” until 2026

National Right to Life’s position applies only to the current House language. If the bill is altered in any way adverse to pro-life interests, their position will be reevaluated.

Please express this to your member of Congress.

Wisconsin Right to Life Mourns the Death of Norma McCorvey

Wisconsin Right to Life mourns the death of pro-life activist Norma McCorvey, known as “Jane Roe” in the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. McCorvey became an outspoken advocate for the right-to-life cause. McCorvey died at her assisted-living facility in Texas on Saturday, February 18th. She was 69.

“While pro-abortion advocates used Norma McCorvey to advance their efforts to legalize abortion in the early 1970s, she spent the last half of her life attempting to right the terrible wrong of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision,” stated Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life. “Norma became an outspoken advocate for protecting the lives of mothers and their unborn children, speaking at right-to-life events across the country. Norma McCorvey was a friend and valued ally in the fight for life, and she will be deeply missed.”

President Trump Reinstates Lifesaving Mexico City Policy

President Trump Reinstates Lifesaving Mexico City Policy » Wisconsin Right to Life

“Wisconsin Right to Life is extremely happy to hear that today, President Donald Trump signed an order to reinstate the lifesaving Mexico City Policy, which prevents taxpayer funds from going to organizations that promote abortion overseas,” stated Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life.

“This order defunds Planned Parenthood and other groups’ international efforts to promote their radical abortion agenda. No taxpayer dollar should ever be used for abortion advocacy, ever,” continued Weininger.

10 Pro-Life Things You Can Do While You’re Snowed In

Nothing is more “Wisconsin” than a snowstorm! While you’re stuck inside, whip up some cocoa, grab some cookies, and check out the pro-life things we recommend you do while we are all snowed in!

1.) Give your mom a call today. (Trust us, it’s always been too long since your last call.) Thank her for choosing life for you!

2.) Check in on any elderly neighbors. Too often those in frail conditions are forgotten or ignored, and your visit can save a life in this cold weather – or perhaps just give some well-appreciated company!

3.) Are you still looking for a last-minute Christmas gift? Give a gift to WRTL in a friend or family member’s name: http://wrtl.org/contribute/. Let them know that this is a gift of LIFE!

4.) Write a letter or an email to your legislator (find yours here). If they are pro-life, thank them for standing for life, and encourage your legislator to help end dismemberment abortion.

5.) Want to go to the March for Life? Take this time to register for our trip!

6.) See if a mom near you needs help with snow removal. Choosing life is awesome, but sometimes it means you don’t have the time or resources to shovel or find a snow blower because you are taking care of your little human. Be a blessing to her and her child, and give a mom a hand!

7.) Read up on the latest pro-life news – you never know when a pro-life fact might come in handy! WRTL’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts are full of curated pro-life news that keep you informed!

8.) Bake some cookies for the employees and volunteers at your local pregnancy resource center to deliver later this week. Let them know their work to help support babies, mothers, and their families is truly appreciated!

9.) Start planning your trip to WRTL’s Biannual Legislative Conference. Many special guests have been invited (Like Gov. Scott Walker and AG Brad Schimel) and the Legislative Conference is an excellent opportunity to learn how to engage your leaders for the right-to-life cause.

10.) Spend the day thinking of some pro-life goals for next year. Do you want to volunteer more with your local right-to-life chapter? Do you want to commit to contacting your legislators more regularly? Do you want to learn more about a particular pro-life topic? Write your goals down, make a game plan, and remember that every effort you make truly makes a difference for life!
