Wisconsin Right To Life

LifeVoice - July / August 2008

LifeVoice - January / February 2007Why John McCain Must Win!

It’s been eight years since pro-abortion forces have had a president who would do their deadly bidding. They are chomping at the bit to see Barack Obama in the Oval Office because they know he truly would be the most pro-abortion president ever elected - worse even than Bill Clinton.

John McCain, who has been endorsed by the Wisconsin Right to Life Political Action Committee, said, “the noblest words ever written” were “the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” McCain said that he strongly and adamantly believes those words apply to unborn children.

McCain’s stellar 25-year right-to-life voting record in defense of unborn children attests to his strong desire to protect them. McCain has often discussed the stark contrast between himself and Obama, citing Obama’s support for partial-birth abortion and Obama’s votes as an Illinois state senator to ensure that even babies who survive abortion attempts would have no protection. Shockingly, Obama’s anti-life fervor extends even beyond abortion into infanticide!

Judicial appointments are of the utmost importance. John McCain understands the crucial role the judiciary plays and has said, “I will look for people in the cast of John Roberts, Samuel Alito, and my friend the late William Rehnquist.”

Obama has very different ideas on judicial nominations and would only nominate individuals who would vote for the continuation of abortion-on-demand. Obama has been endorsed by the National Abortion Rights Action League, Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion PAC, Emily’s List. They all know that Obama would be our nation’s most abortion president to date. For the sake of the right to life of unborn children, John McCain must win!

Don't Let Pro-Abortion Zealots Take Control of the State Legislature

Disaster is only a few Assembly seats away! Our State Senate is already in the hands of a radically pro-abortion leadership and the Assembly’s right-to-life majority hangs by a thread.

The pro-abortion movement has only to defeat a few right-tolife Assembly representatives in order to take complete control of both houses of the legislature. And if even one right-to-life state senator is defeated, the situation will become even more grave. Here’s what you can expect to happen if pro-abortion forces take control of the legislature:

  • Taxpayer funding of abortion

  • Repeal of Wisconsin’s abortion ban that would shut down Wisconsin’s abortion clinics when Roe v. Wade is overturned

  • The undoing of life-saving laws such as parental consent prior to a minor's abortion

  • Forcing doctors and hospitals to perform abortions - and who knows what else!

DON’T LET THE LEGISLATURE FALL UNDER THE CONTROL OF PRO-ABORTION FORCES!

Wisconsin 2007 Abortions Fall a Dramatic 14%

In the biggest annual decrease in a decade, Wisconsin abortions fell 14% in 2007 compared to 2006. The number of 2007 abortions performed was 8,267 compared to 9,580 in the preceding year, a decrease of 1,313 abortions in a single year.

With your help, Wisconsin Right to Life uses a multi-faceted strategy aimed at reducing the number of abortions. The continued decline year after year afrms the effectiveness of your support of our strategies.

A word of caution must be sounded, however. Planned Parenthood was forced to close two of its abortion clinics in Milwaukee and Appleton for seven months in 2007 due to having no one willing to perform abortions. That represented closure of 40% of abortion clinics in Wisconsin. With the clinics reopened, it is very possible that abortions will increase in 2008.

Nonetheless, circumstances should not in any way diminish the fact that 1,313 babies who might have been killed by abortion are alive today. The 2007 report, available from the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, reveals that women 18-34 account for 81% of abortions performed. African-American women continue to abort at the alarming rate of 24% while Latino women acquire 9% of all abortions. Women who are not married obtain 88% of abortions, indicating that the absence of the father in the woman’s life impacts her decision to abort.

Wisconsin’s abortion ratio, the number of abortions per 100 live births, is now at 11, compared to the national ratio of 24. Wisconsin’s abortion rate, the number of abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age, now stands at 7 compared to the national rate of 19.5.

Senator Barack Obama claims that he is not pro-abortion. Yet, the unwelcome change he wants to achieve on abortion and infanticide if he were to become president is as follows:

• Obama wants you to pay for all 1.2 million annual abortions with your tax dollars – as many abortions as a woman wants, for any reason, at any time during pregnancy.

• Obama does not want parents notied if their minor daughter is seeking an abortion. He voted to allow a stranger to accompany a minor across state lines to have an abortion so that her parents would not nd out.

• Obama told Planned Parenthood that his rst act as president would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. This act would enshrine abortion on demand in federal law and overturn almost all state laws which restrict abortion in any way -- laws such as Wisconsin’s Woman’s Right to Know and Parental Consent laws.

• Obama wants partial-birth abortion to be available.

• Obama voted three times against a proposed Illinois law which would require that babies who survive abortion attempts be given lifesaving medical treatment.

• Obama has a very simple requirement for nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court – they must support continued abortion on demand.

Why the Right-to-Life is Worth Voting For.

Those who believe that abortion is the key issue which will determine who they vote for are often criticized for being a narrow-minded “single-issue” voter. Is the right-to-life worth voting for? A thousand times yes. Your right-to-life values do matter, and if candidates don’t support yours, then abortion on demand will continue unabated in our country. Here is why the right-to-life is worth voting for:

• Over 50 million unborn American children have died a violent death from abortion since legalization in 1973. The number is so staggering that it appears incomprehensible. Yet, the candidate you vote for can either allow this slaughter to continue, or reverse this enormous destruction of human life.

• Abortion has a devastating impact on the mother, both physically and psychologically. And, on the father, grandparents and all family members.

• Since 48% of abortions are repeats – meaning the woman has more than one abortion – it is evident that abortion is being used as a means of birth control.

• Modern technology through ultrasound and intrauterine photography has now proven beyond a shadow of a doubt what seven U.S. Supreme Court justices said they could not determine in 1973 – that every unborn child is a unique member of the human family from the time of fertilization.

• Acceptance of abortion has led to people justifying the killing of newborn infants with disabilities, and of older people, those with disabilities, and the terminally ill through assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Your right-to-life values do matter, and so does your vote. You can make a huge difference in eradicating the worst human rights abuse in our history. Exercise your vote wisely on September 9 and November 4. It is a powerful weapon to be used in defense of human life.
